(Dallas, TX) – The Ebola healthcare crisis sheds light on the issue that the United States is currently without a Surgeon General. Artemis Medical Society is concerned that this vacancy is hurting the overall response to the Ebola crisis and issued the following statement.
With the sad news another one of our healthcare colleagues has tested positive for the Ebola virus in Dallas, Texas, Artemis Medical Society is calling on the U.S. Senate to immediately return to session and take up the confirmation of Dr. Vivek Murthy as Surgeon General.
Artemis Medical Society finds it disturbing that in a time of a public health crisis the U.S. Senate would continue to delay the confirmation hearings on Dr. Murthy. It is unacceptable the office of the highest physician in the U.S., entrusted with protecting the health of all Americans, continues to be vacant at this crucial time in our nation’s health history.
The time has come to stop playing politics with the health of Americans. The current lack of action by our nation’s Senators regarding the Surgeon General further complicates this current public health emergency. Physicians, nurses, healthcare workers, police officers, firefighters and other first responders deserve to have this crucial public health position filled. #healthnotpolitics
