“Another aspect of the cartoon has attracted many parents: the art of mom Dottie, doctor. An important model for the younger generations in a country where only 4% of teachers are African-Americans as they represent more than 13% of the population. The percentage is even lower when it comes to women: 1.9% of physicians are black.
After watching the series with his four year old daughter, Dr. Myiesha Taylor began to collect photos of a hundred black American women doctor. She made a collage that made the buzz on the internet and it was then sent to Disney in gratitude. As she explains on North American television channel MSNBC , she eventually founded an organization ( “Artemis Medical Society” ) to encourage African-American women to become a doctor.”
